Default Tatuaje Black P.L Box smell

Anyone that has a box knows the chemical smell that they have, glue, wood whatever does not matter. I have mine airing out but is there anyone who has gotten rid of the smell? I have kept mine open for about a month now and it is still as strong as day one. The idea to make it similar to the jar is cool and all but it will cause a storage issue when I decide to open the "foil" wrapping and smoke them.

Is it the lacquer they use?

I thought it was the wood they used not the laquer. Let me see if I can find the thread on this...

Mine doesn't smell. I let it air out overnight before putting them away in the vino. Just took them out again to confirm...no smell.

I think it is the wood from the box, not the inserts. Thought all of the boxes were like this. Maybe they changed the material?

For coolers we crumple up newspaper you might try that it does work.

Good Luck.

Mine doesn't have a smell either. Interested in how those newspapers work out for you though just in case I ever run into this problem.

Mine smelled. Was not the original PL's but the first batch of regular production. I've had them out of the box since the day I got them in. Just have the foil pack in my humidor *shrug*

They work for taking the plastic smell out of coolers, I can't be sure if the paint or lacquer is still curing it won't work completely until the curing process is done. But it makes sense that it would work I hope so at least.

Haven't had the funds to grab a box of those yet. I'm kind of surprised there would be a problem after the Drac box fiasco, though.

It's not the paint. The smell is from the inside of the box, either the wood or the glue.

The smell you are smelling is the MDF used for the construction of the box. It was made out of MDF with a Cedar sleeve. If you were to pull the sticks out of the foil and let them rest in there unwrapped oddly enough that smell does go away. At a recent event when no one else was around I pointed it out to Pete. He quickly grabbed a box off the shelf to check it out but the box on the shelf was used as a display and the sticks were unwrapped and that is where I found out that the MDF smell does go away as it seems to absorb the smell of the tobacco pretty well as I couldn't even get the smell of MDF from that box until I smelled the lid which was kept off the box.
I told him that my box and others smelled like fresh cut wood and that is when he told me about the construction of the box and informed me that I was most likely smelling the MDF. Needless to say after seeing or should I say smelling the display box at the shop where the event was held I no longer worried about any ill effects from storing the sticks in the box.

You can't always believe what you read on the internet but the last paragraph is interesting. I don't know what the hell the smell is (other than MDF) but the box is staying on display.
