Some of the %'s look wrong as well. It definitely doesn't consider years. 120 minute was 21% at one point, so was WWS according to rate beer.

Interesting list though. #1 is 21% but so are WWS/120 or at least they were. WWS was said to be all the way up to 23% at one point.

I agree with MikeyC if Millennium is on there so should Hair of the Dog Dave which was 28%. Sure you cannot get it anymore but lets face it Millennium isn't widely available either.

Brian is correct, Mephistopheles, WWS and 120 minute definitely don't taste like 15-21% ABV. They are smooth and the alcohol is WELL hidden. I've fooled so many people that were pretty drunk with the 120 minute. They pounded it and fell over, then the next day asked me where to buy more and what they actually drank They never believe it was 21% when I tell them.

Think of high abv beers like bourbon, try WLW and tell me it tastes like it's nearly 70% alcohol....it doesn't. It might have some heat to it but you could easily be fooled into thinking it was 45-50% instead of 64-68%.

I've always heard about the Avery brews, but never been able to get my hands on them. If anyone on here has access to them, would love to try a few bottles. Hit me up, I'm sure we can work something out.

Anyone have any idea when 120 min will be releasing again? I really want to try to grab a couple this time around.

They just shipped an early surprise batch so that should be on shelves in a few weeks. Then there's the usual novemberish release

The rules: Every beer considered had to be brewed in the United States. Seasonal ales were included, but not limited run ales that are no longer available for purchase. As well, all the beers on the list are available in 12 oz. bottles or on draft

They state pretty clearly no "limited run ales." Yet on the list clear as day is SA Millenium Ale and SA Triple Boch. Millenium Ale was made in extremely limited quantities and only sold in the year 1999 and was never available in a 12 oz bottle or on draft. Triple Boch on the other hand was much easier to get but hasn't been produced since about 1996-1997 and I believe the only size bottle it came in was actually smaller than 12 oz. So, why are these beers on the list? Also, it's very clear to me that this author knows little about beer because they use the term "ales" to refer to all beers. The words "ale" and "beer" are not synonymous. Ale has to be beer but beer does not have to be ale.

I can understand the spirit of the criteria . . . they want to have beers on the list that one can actually get their hands on . . . GREAT! Then why are these two SA beers on the list? It seems to me the author wanted to have SA beers on the list, but didn't want to have them as #1. I have two bottles of Utopias. It's DELICIOUS. Nothing like any other beer you've ever had, but still a beer.

What he said. Very well said, BTW.

That is not the highest I have seen! There is a 32% beer called Tactical Nuclear Penguin.

I really enjoy dark beers though, like Imperial Stout
