I've had a few good Gurkhas, a few bad Gurkhas and one or two great Gurkhas. My wife even bought me the Spec Ops box of Gurkhas and had them shipped to me in Iraq. My favorite so far is the Red Dragon ( sent to me by Hotreds)

But, with that being said, I think their customer relations is lacking. I jumped on the opportunity to be part of the Gurkha Tasters Club (where we were supposed to be getting monthly cigars to try and post reviews). This lasted for about a month, after a pretty extensive screening process, and then all contact ended. Six months later, after we had all begged for some acknowledgement, they respond that they are not going to do this anymore

A group of Gurkha fans and not even any contact for that length of time. Needless to say, I have been turned off slightly.

Last game was painful.
But losing to ManU at Old Trafford is nothing to hang your head about. It's the draws or losses against Swansea, Norwich, Wigan, Stoke and the like that are REALLY painful.

If that were the case, we wouldn't have such iconic pictures.

FNA is on a distinguished road
Default Re: Gurkha the monticristo of NCs

I have not had any issues with plugged Gurkhas and I have smoked rather more than 15.

That said, I have had uneven burn problems on almost every perfecto vitola from Gurkha.

I recall no burn or draw problems with any parejos - no wait, there's a box-pressed toro with green and red in the band, they have boated I think I remember. But the large formats (7.5 inch and up) have smoked very well.

I generally like the flavors Gurkha offers. I think these cigars really have to be bought at auction as the MSRP is just too high.

I'm confused, maybe because I'm relatively new to the hobby, but what exactly is it about Gurkha that seems to draw the ire of a majority of the smoking community. I had one yesterday that was almost totally unmemorable, either bad or good. I was half expecting it to explode in a cloud of nerve gas when I lit it after reading these boards for a while.

I think its because us cigar smokers must be in some way related to crows as they have real shiny bands that are real nice to "collect"

Wouldn't that make them well liked though?

I think you meant your title to be; "Gurkha, the Guantanamera of NCs?"

For the most part they tend to be vastly overpriced for the stick they are. For example, the Cellar Reserve isn't a bad stick, but for 1/3 the price I can pick up a Perdomo Lot 23 with the same exact flavors and just as good(if not better) construction. If the Cellar Reserve was only a buck or two more than a Lot 23 I could justify grabbing one every now and then for a change of pace, but I'm not going to pay $12 for something I can get for $4

Also, I'm not a fan of their advertising practices, but you can PM me if you want to know about that.

Smoke what you like, like what you smoke.

If you like Gurkhas, good deal. You can grab my portion with my blessing.
