Default NC Davidoffs

People who know me know I smoke habanos pretty much exclusively... after a good amount of testing, I just seem to personally prefer them (there were many NC vs CC threads... I'm not looking to recreate that here as they never stay civil. The only reason I even mention it is to preface what's next).

That said, these NC Davidoffs are off the friggin' hook. I'm smoking a #2 tubo right now and, in my personal opinion, it's just as good (if not better) than many of the CC's I have. This one's been sitting for probably a year and was given to me in the NC MAW by Patrick, I believe. Before, I posted a review of a Mill Blend Lancero, which I also loved.

What the hell are they doing over there to make such damned good sticks?! This thing is truly a treat... very mild and flavorful. Too bad you need to sell body parts to buy boxes of them.

What are your opinions of the NC Davi line?

Best non-Cuban cigar line across the board. Price point is a bit restrictive but they make a heck of a product.

I remember thinking I should try one of these, and laughed when I saw what the local b&m was charging. still have yet to try one.

This pretty much sums up my thoughts on NCs. There are a few that I feel are just as good or better than some Cubans, but they usually also cost about 3x as much as your average CC.

I think all of you have gotten fake Davidoffs, because the ones I have smoked have not been as you described and I know for a fact that mine were real.

I'm not saying the maker as a whole is bad, I do enjoy their Avo and Winston Churchill cigars, but the White Label Davidoff's have been pretty grassy tasting, to me at least.

I went to an event in Austin in June and picked up the Purp d'Oro line of Davidoffs. They were the first and only Davidoffs I've ever had and I really liked them. Thought it was a great line.

They are very consistent from one cigar to another in taste and construction. However the flavor is one noted and I prefer a melody. Especially at that price point.

Here is what I wrote almost 2 years and it remains the same today:

See Dan I knew you had taste

I've tried almost all of their products including most of the special editions. My favorite thus far was the Robusto Intenso, 2005's limited run. Absolutely phenomenal cigar. (And if anyone wants to part with some they've got left over let me know, bought the last one at my B&M about 6 months ago).

That being said not all of their sticks are perfect. The first Maduro robusto I tried blew my mind, so I went back and bought another. It sucked. Wouldn't stay lit and what I got tasted ashy. That's very atypical for Davidoff as their smokes are usually consistent if nothing else, but I wanted to be balanced here.

I am a huge fan of the Millennium and Puro D' Oro lines, as mentioned above the prices are harder to justify but it often doesn't stop me.

As were mine... here's the thing, NC Davis are SUPER GRASSY when you first get them... every one I've had has been like that.

Let one sit for a minimum of 6 months... a year or two is better. Totally different cigar.

The Mills are good and I haven't seen the D oro's yet... there's no Davidoff dealer near me... closest one is, I believe, Albany (3.5 hours drive).

I was fortunate enough to get one last time I went to Vegas (I go there 2-4 times a year but always forget the davidoff shop and end up at Casa Fuente). It was an outstanding cigar! If they weren't so bloody expensive it'd be a great smoke in the morning with coffee and Bailys

As far as white labels go, I've found that they are somewhat inconsistent from production batch to batch (I worked at a shop that sold white labels by the truckload). Generally, the lighter the wrapper, the smoother and more creamy they are, the darker wrappers needing a little more time to rest.

The #2 is one of the best cigars in the white label lineup, followed by the Millennium robusto. The downside is, they cost a lot, and they require some time to rest.

There's one catch to Davi white label cigars...they smoke best if they're stored between 63-65% RH and then dry boxed for a day before smoking. I don't say this out of personal preference, but from the experience of smoking several hundred over a couple years.

For the record, I'm not a fan of 90% of the white label stuff (I like a rougher cigar).

If I had too pick one cigar that I had to smoke everyday for the rest of my life, the Davidoff Millenium Blend Churchill would be way out front of everything else...LOVE that cigar...everyone has been impeccably well made, fantastic flavor profile...I could go on forever...I say that after having smoked through many boxes of Davidoff product.
