I live outside of Boston. Lot of awesome sites here. Cigar Masters is a really nice store in Boston. The north end has any type of authentic food you could want.

Red Sox tickets are crazy cheap right now as well, depending when you come.

Thanks Brian, I am a Red Sox fan but I dont think we will make it until late October when the season is over but we might still check out Fenway and Federal is defiantly on my stop list! We were considering taking the Amtrak Downeaster from Portland to Boston because my Wife has been to to Boston before and says driving in Boston is pretty crazy.

If you are going to be anywhere near, Mystic CT is a pretty awesome town to visit.

I was in Hyannis recently and made the trek to Portsmouth, N.H. .. the downtown historic district had alot of cool shops and food places. We ate at the Portsmouth Brewery and it was VERY good.. then walked up the hill and looked across the bay into Maine.

Neat little area!

Alot of this stuff is within a block or two of each other

I think we are staying in Concord then going to Portland so we will go through Portsmouth so it looks like a great stop for lunch. Thanks, Thrak!

North End of Boston is fun with cigar shops, amazing italian restaurants, and charming decore. If the express ferry from Boston to Provicetown is still working, that's a great day trip. Provincetown would be too far to drive IMO considering you are already driving so much. NH should have amazing foliage as well as the Nashoba valley area of MA.

Try this, it's a "T" schedule, there are some buses to Boston.

Boston driving isn't that bad...but it would do you good to park and walk if you have a particular neighborhood in mind. Also suggest a stop in the Trade Center area (where the tea party ships are) - the Legal Seafood test kitchen is there, and is a good meal. If you're up in Maine, Portland is a must - lots to do there. DO NOT MISS Bob's Clam Hut on Rt. 1 in Kittery - it's just over the bridge from Portsmouth (15 minutes from downtown, even less from the traffic circle) and totally worth the drive! Downtown Portsmouth is a winner - there's a small restaurant back by the tugboats on the harbor (I think it's called the Blue Crab but I might be wrong...it's been a little while). But tons to do there, as has been mentioned. There's Red Hook brewery - on the outskirts of town, they have a good restaurant too - and tours! If you take 1A out of Hampton (just outside Portsmouth) down through the North Shore area to 133 ("the long way"), you'll be heading toward some nice/scenic towns like Newburyport and Ipswich. I also recommend a detour to Gloucester and Rockport if you have time. Great scenery. Before you know it, you're in Boston.

Enjoy - it's great up there!

Sam Adams brewery in Jamaica Plain is cool. Check out Harvard Sq, Cambridge; there's an amazing old world cigar shop that you'll love and a few cool places to like Bartley's Hamburgers.

It takes me an hour to get to work everyday in Boston, and it's 16 miles away. It took 2 hours one way to drive 40 miles to NH for a Cigar Store today, and 1.5 hours on the way home. And that's on the interstate.

Boston driving is awful.

JP can be a nasty place in some parts. The Sam Adams tour is 100% Free, and you get a free glass at the end. They also have a trolly that takes you to the oldest Irish Bar in America (The bar in Mystic River), and if you get a Sam Adams, you get one of their tall glasses. The Bar is called "O'Doyles", and is a treat in itself. The Pizza and Wings are killer.
