So far the Yankees big free agent moves have been bringing back Freddy Garcia and Andruw Jones. The Japanese infielder the Yankees won the bidding right to appears to be staying in Japan. He is a started SS and the best the Yankees can give him is a bench role and they will not meet his $ demands. Good chance that Eric Chavez will be signed for the bench. He has said he will return to the Yankees or retire. On the Garza trade talks the Yankees look to be out of the running. The Cubs want the Yankees 3 top prospects which is not going to happen.

Well, looks like the starting rotation is no longer a problem. Pineda and Kuroda in the same night? Cue the march

I like the move.
Wish it was king Felix coming back, but this definitely makes them younger in the rotation.
I feel like it was a good trade.
Montero didn't have anywhere to play, and Pineda has a huge upside.
The 4 man race for the last 2 rotation spots will be fun to watch!

Who's gonna catch? Cervelli? Montero has the better bat.

Russel Martin!
Montero wasn't much of a catcher.
If Cervelli isn't the backup, Austin Romine will be.
He is the best "catching" prospect the yanks have.

Martin, if he stays healthy. Romine if he's not. Cervelli will back up until Gary Sanchez is ready. Yankees are stacked deep with catching talent, Montero has an awesome bat and I think will be a great hitter for Seattle, but he isn't that good behind the plate.

I wonder where Seattle will play Montero?
I don't think they will catch him.
Does he go to the outfield or first base?
I heard during the season they were unhappy with Justin Smoak and wished they traded Lee to the Yanks instead.
I wonder if they will keep Smoak and use Montero to push him?
Either way they still have a long road to catch Texas and now the Angels

I'm not so sure I like this trade, and likely won't be for years. Pitching is fragile, while I can see Montero being a 40/100 guy for the next 15 years. And remember, Posada was once denigrated for his lack of ability behind the dish, yet did better than OK IMHO. True, he was never Pudge, but he was never the Pizza man either.

It's much easier to find a bat than a strong arm. Pineda has a lot of upside to him, personally I think it's a great trade. MArtin, Cervelli, Romine and Garcia are all far better catchers than Montero, the Yanks need the DH spot for some of their aging players, he couldn't play outfield because of his lack of speed, there really was just no good place to play him.

Now that Spring Training is here and the last of the Yankees have been signed to contract here is the opening day roster minus and injuries that may happen during the spring.

Catcher
Russell Martin
Francisco Cervelli

Infield
Mark Teixeira
Robinson Cano
Derek Jeter
Eduardo Nunez
Alex Rodriguez
Eric Chavez

Outfielders
Nick Swisher
Curtis Granderson
Brett Gardner
Andruw Jones
Raul Ibanez

Starters
CC Sabathia
Ivan Nova
Hiroki Kuroda
Michael Pineda
Phil Hughes
Freddy Garcia

Relievers
Mariano Rivera
David Robertson
Rafael Soriano
Cory Wade
Boone Logan

The only opening on the 25 man roster is in the bullpen which they have a few different pitchers that will be fighting for that spot. The 5th spot in the rotation will be between Hughes and Garcia with the loser going to the bullpen. The primary DH's will be a platoon between Jones & Ibanez.

It's going to be a good year. The Yanks have the complete roster in the division

Bobby V has jumped right into the Yankees/Red Sox war by bad mouthing the Yankees everytime a microphone is in front of his face.

Yankees first Spring Training game will be Friday against the University of South Florida on Friday. Sunday they will be on the YES Network against the Phillies at 1pm.

Bobby V hasn't even led a team to a division title, let alone win a World Series.

He should keep his piehole clamped shut.
