I don't think hypocrisy is the issue unless you are trying to make the case of steroids being no more of a performance enhancing drug than a drug that mimicks caffeine, albeit with more severe side effects.

Couldn't the same logic be used for anabolic steroids that you're using for amphetamines? After all, anabolic steroids are a drug that mimics testosterone, albeit with more side effects. See how that works?
