Default La Reloba seleccion Sumatra torpedo

In the past I smoked the La Reloba robusto in all three blends, seleccion Sumatra, Mexico and Habano. The only one I loved was the Mexico, the others weren’t bad but not impressive either. When I read that the La Reloba seleccion Sumatra torpedo scored 94 point in Cigar Aficionado and that they became available in The Netherlands as the only non robusto, I was curious enough to give this 6x52 cigar a try.

The medium brown and mild oily wrapper has a few veins. The band is pretty and stylish. I smell a pretty strong barnyard smell and the construction feels good. The predraw is fine and I taste raisin and some red pepper.

I taste a lot of herbs with a mild sweetness. After an inch I taste herbs, red pepper and that sweetness. After a third a mild sour flavour joins the herbs, pepper and sweetness, it reminds me of lemon and I like it.

Halfway I taste wood with herbs and after two thirds I taste more lemon and a bit more sugar.

This cigar lasted me for an hour and forty minutes. The draw is good and I got a lot of thick white smoke. The almost white ash is firm and straight. The burn is straight too. This cigar is full flavoured and medium bodied, but a bit one dimensional and boring.

Would I buy this cigar again? No, if I smoke a La Reloba, it will be the seleccion Mexico robusto.

Appearance: 7 / 10
Construction: 8/ 10
Draw: 8 / 10
Burn: 8 / 10
Smoke & ash: 8 / 10
Aroma first part: 8 / 10
Aroma second part: 7 / 10
Aroma third part: 7 / 10

Thanks for the review. I have a couple of these resting after their long trip. I had the Habano yesterday, Meh. The 1st third was decent, then it just got real boring. Will have to get hold of the Mexican.

Nice review Ferdie. I'm not a fan of the Habano and I dislike most anything Sumatra these days, so I won't be trying it. I would like to try the Mexico some day.

Thanks for the review, with pictures. I am not a fan of the La Reloba line, but I have not tried the Mexico wrapper.

You know the one that used to shine in this line to me is the "old"
La Reloba Sumatra, when It first came out in 2Q 2010! I was told
by the owner of a B&M that they changed the blend. The old version
was strong as hell, and i'm said i only have a few left out of the box of
robusto's that I bought. if i could only find some more of those!

Sorry you were underwhelmed Ferdie!

I didn't like the first Habano and Sumatra blends I tried either. But amazingly, both showed A LOT of improvement after a couple months in the humi with cello removed.

I'll have to try the Mexico blend.
