Default New(to me) Pipes, estate

My mother in law purchased these pipes in an auction for a dollar. I know nothing about them, and little about pipes in general. I wanted to share what I rec'd with all you nuts, and maybe gain some information.

AH my eyes! That medico needs a major reaming. Other than that you have a nice collection of meerschaums, the one with the bird is a newer clay pipe, and the big Sherlock Holmes one looks like to be a real Gourd Calabash. Over all it's a good score and the fact that she paid a dollar for all of them makes it the deal of the week. You're a lucky guy.

The big 'un, a classic calabash, is a gourd body and meerschaum bowl made by Pioneer. They maybe didn't make the most beautiful calabash pipes in the world but they smoke well; I have one and it's a pip of a puffer.

The fragile clay bowl is lightly pressure-fitted in the gourd, held in with a cork gasket glued into the top of the gourd interior. The bowl may be stuck in the gourd with pipe-crud or it may want to fall out if the clay is clean and the cork is all dried up. Handle with care. They can usually be twisted gently clockwise and slowly pulled out; if you try and it doesn't give easily, let it be.

Nice get.

I always find it odd to smoke the head of a guy who is smoking a pipe. It would be even crazier if you were smoking the head of a guy who is smoking another head of a guy that is smoking a pipe for that eternity effect.

Regardless, great finds.

I'll take a picture of me taking a picture of me smoking the head pipe smoking another pipe... Or I could do it the easy way and just divide by zero.
