Road trip, Houston to Washington DC

The wife and I are flying down to Houston next week to pick up my dad's car and drive it back to Maryland. We will then drive to New Orleans for a couple of days, and then onto Clarksdale MS, Asheville, NC and home to Silver Spring MD. I'm looking for any suggestions of things to stop and see along the way.

Any suggestions on things to do in New Orleans while we are there would be greatly appreciated. We will be there on Friday and Saturday 7/9-7/10 and leaving on Sunday. Thanks, Tom
