Default Oliva Serie V Double Robusto

I was scanning through the Vino this evening trying to figure out what I wanted to smoke. I recently quit smoking cigarettes, so I laid off the cigars for a couple of weeks as well. This had to change. With the Minnesota days becoming increasing cooler, the opportunities to enjoy a cigar outdoors is becoming drastically smaller. This cigar has been resting for about 6 months, so I figured this would be a perfect time to light this guy up.

The construction of this cigar was near perfect. It was dark and oily and was rolled beautifully.

At first, this cigar started out very full strength, but then pulled back to a more medium to medium-full. Initially it was a little harsh, but then this cigar hit its groove and mellowed out into a nice smooth smoke.

The draw was what I consider to be perfect; with a slight resistance. This cigar provided a large amount of smoke, and the ash was very firm. The burn was good for the most part, but it did require a couple of touch-ups to keep it in check.

The flavors in this smoke were quite good. It started out woody with a fruity sweetness, and then after the first third I could taste coffee as well. The cigar started to get harsh with about 2 inches left, so I laid it down

Although this was a solid smoke, I wouldn’t say it’s a great smoke. I’d give it an 8/10. In the Serie V line, I like the lancero better than the double robusto, but I like the double robusto better than the belicoso. For the price though, this line is pretty hard to beat.

Smoking one of these right now.

I have not been impressed with the Vs I've smoked. Couple of lanceros, couple of these and about half a V Maduro (tossed it around halfway).

Why?

They tasted like ammonia to me. BUT...in my neverending journey through cigardom, I recently realized that I smoke too fast. Making an effort to smoke slower has REALLY made a difference, especially with CCs.

So I decided to try another Oliva V. This one has been in the humi for 8-9 months.

Nice smoke...STRONG but not harsh through the nose. Nice flavors. Coffee, unsweetened cocoa, spice, and even a strange booze kind of flavor. Lots of subtle flavor changes.

I have officially changed my mind about the Oliva V. I can see myself laying a box of these down for a year or so. Probably a different size though - 54 RG is too fat.

Thanks for the review. I love the Oliva V and want to grab a box. Just trying to decide which vitola is best of this line. I have had the torpedo and perfecto and enjoyed both but want a shorter (in terms of time) smoke. Maybe the double robo is the way to go.

The double robusto is my favorite of the V line, with the lancero coming in a close second.

I find that they smoke better at a lower RH. I've had a few off the shelf at the B&M and they haven't been as good as the ones I have at home in the humi. I picked up a box not too long ago & I'm letting them rest a while before I dig in.

Thanks for the review.
