I WON MY SHOOTOFF !! I'm the CA State Sporting Clays Champion......... in "C" Class !!

The guy that beat me in Friday's Prelim beat me by 14 birds. But at the half way point on Saturday night he was only three birds ahead of me in the main event.

There were some pretty high scores on Sunday, and I turned in an 82. I was hot and tired and didn't think it was enough. By the time I was done shooting I had been clean and sober for 24 hours AND REALLY NEEDED A COLD BEER.

When I went to grab one a few people told me, "Don't drink". I didn't know what they were talking about until I went outside and looked at the scores.

Doug MaClellan and I were tied for C1 with 151.

Before the shoot-off I was nervous. But as I stepped onto the field of honor I steeled my nerves and sharpened my eyes.

With the Rocky theme song playing in my mind I watched as Jun thru 7 pairs of targets, nothing too soft, but nothing too crazy either.

In the end I think I broke six or seven of them, but it was enough BECAUSE THE OTHER GUY WAS HOME WATCHING ME ON TV.

Turns out it's pretty easy to win when you're the only one shooting.

Years from now when people are crying over my grave, my headstone will say 2011 "C" Class State Champion (with no mention of the shoot-off).
