Default Temp/Humidity Question

Hey all. I have been having some concern in my walk in humi (closet). The temp/humidity vary distinctly from top to bottom. It is always colder and too humid at the top vs. the bottom. I put a fan in there set with a timer at the top blowing downwards but the fan is pretty small and doesn't run for long. I'm, not so sure this is correcting the problem.

I am using a 2 gallon hamilton beach humidifier set at 65RH (at the bottom of the humi) and a cooling unit on top of the door (fixed through the wall) set at 62F.

Questions???

1. Do you guys see any concern with putting a bigger fan in there and running it all the time or a majority of the time?

2. Would the fan be best at the bottom pointing upwards or the fan at the top pointing downwards. (The humidity is greater at the top of the walk in)

Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Curt

Yes, I would think a larger fan would help you in this situation and I would place the fan at the top but I really don't think it would matter as long as the fan is large enough to move the air throughout the closet.

Good luck!

I think a larger fan that circulates all the air in the closet would be the best way to go. I don't think it would make much difference where you put it.

Quick update, I did put a larger fan on the bottom pointing towards the cooling unit up top. The results.... A much cooler environment throughout the entire humi. Not really any change in humidity. I think I need to get my digital hydrometers checked out. I put a scientific hydro in there and it was -2rh compared to my others one (this is better news for me). Maybe my old hydros are off. They are pretty old now

If you want to check your hygrometers, use the salt test. There are directions to do this on this site, or you can go to xikar.com and use their instructions written to check their hygrometer units: http://xikar.com/files/salt_test_instructions.pdf

I've used this test for a number of my smaller units and it works well. But use the search function and check out what some of the other members have to say also.

Good Luck!
