Stars give up just one goal and beat the Caps? (Yeah, we may have been gifted a call with 10 seconds left in the game... but don't worry about that.) Backup goalie and all? 5 game winning streak? I thought this team wouldn't even sniff 80 points this year.

I'll take it...

It's amazing what your team can do when they set up in the neutral zone and stop the "dump and chase" crap.

Having Savard back in the lineup may have boosted the team's moral a bit too

I agree. They really turned it on in that one. I believe it was tied at 3-3 before the Wings poured in 3 more for a 6-3 final.

It seems Wings fans are everywhere. You always see a decent number in opponents arenas for the away games.

This Mike is thrilled. A shutout for the old fantasy pool is always welcome! Hopefully he can keep this up and win over the number 1 spot. It took him a while to get going last year then he won the cup!

Growning up in Michigan, I hated the Blackhawks. Now that I've been in Chicago for a while I've grown to like them. Heck, I hope they win every game...except for the ones where they play the Wings.

This is a neat little site that I found a couple years ago that gives percent chance of teams that will make the playoffs. I meant to post it last year leading up to the playoffs because that is the only time it really means anything. You can choose your team from the left hand column and it will give you more information about other games and their importance to your teams playoff chances. Like I mentioned before though, doesn't mean much until later in the season when it has more data to go by.

http://www.sportsclubstats.com/hockey/Canada/NHL.html

And this is how it works:

Quote:
Sports Club Stats calculates each team’s odds of making the playoffs, how each upcoming game will impact those odds, and how well they have to finish out to have a shot. It knows the season schedule and scores for past games. Each night it grabs any new scores from the internet and simulates the rest of the season by randomly picking scores for each remaining game. The weighted method takes the opponents record and home field advantage into account when randomly picking scores, so the better team is more likely to win. The 50/50 method gives each opponent an equal chance of winning each game. Both methods let an appropriate percent of games end in a tie or go into overtime in leagues where that matters. When it’s finished "playing" all the remaining games it applies the league’s tie breaking rules to see where everyone finished. It repeats this random playing out of the season million of times (try it yourself), keeping track of how many "seasons" each team finishes where. Finally it updates this page with the new results for you to read with your morning coffee.
To help flush out each team’s highest and lowest possible seeds, I force them to win or lose all their remaining games for a small percentage of the simulation runs. All the change columns are since the end of the last day that had games. Click the league (on the left) to compare all teams.

I think a Healthy Krejci, Savard back and some dead weight moved out really helped out last night.

I just Hope they can keep it up for a few games and this wasn't a one hit wonder for the rest of the month.
It was nice to see them beat the bag out of a team that is playing well.

I rooted for the Wings every year in the playoffs when the Hawks missed them...growing up in Detroit left me with some love for the Wings, Pistons and Tigers.

Hawks have a similar following around opposing rinks the last couple years.

Yeah, the Lions have a little spot in my heart too, but I try to not admit it in public, Mike.

I don't blame you. It's hard to be a Lions fan. You have to have paper bags to wear for all the home games, fire Millen T-shirts, Fire Millen parades, etc... The "Lion's SuperBowl" questions start on Detroit Sports Talk radio usually by week 4 or 5.

The "Lion's SuperBowl" in other cities is also known as the NFL Draft.
