Default Looking for kitchen backsplash/bathroom tile ideas

I'm going to be putting in a backsplash for my kitchen in addition to putting in new tile in the master bathroom floor/garden tub/stand up shower.

Anyway, I'm looking for some ideas...does anyone have anything they'd like to share to give me some good ideas?

1" glazed tiles are nice. They come in 1" squared and pop out to make the installation easy. A lighter green would look nice in the kitchen. Take a kitchen cabinet to the tile store to match it exact. The green would work with the wood, black, white and steel you already have. Some tiles can be popped out for a constrasting color like mother of pearl, colored glass, etc...

One design feature I love is when these tiles are done on the backsplash and above the cabinet to the ceiling.

As for the bathroom. How about some wood paneling above the tile area like a sauna? A large framed mirror could replace where the pictures are currently. You could consider wall paper as sell. It looks really plain as it is. You could also do 12" stone tiles in light grey. Personally, I do not like dark bathrooms, so I would keep the palette light.

I should have noted the appliances in this picture are being updated to stainless steel and the countertops are being changed to solid surface that will darken the room a bit. Also, the stuff in the bathroom was just there from the seller while they were showing it and isn't there now.

You should take the counter sample and a cabinet door to a tile store where they put both under very bright light and match it.

I really like the look of tumbled natural stone. Good advice has already been given. Take samples of the cabinets, counter top, floor tile, and wall paint to the tile store when you are ready to pick out a color. I think the most important thing is to pick out a focal point. For us it was the vent hood. My wife searched through magazines until she found a style that she liked and then we picked out colors that suited us.

Very nice looking Kitchen

My advice is to take as many samples home from the store to see in your kitchen, with your appliances and lighting. Also, get as many opinions as possible (for perspective) but get what YOU want think looks best.

Ok, ~ $2500 later, here is what I ended up with for my bathroom and kitchen backsplash.

http://www.tileshop.com/product/prod...?familyID=1663
http://www.tileshop.com/product/prod...?familyID=1662

The "rust" color online makes it appear a bit reddish, but the tile actually is more of a darker chocolate. The lighter color will be most of the floor, tub, and shower, but the "rust" color will be cut into diamonds and centered in the tub backsplash and the shower about 2/3 of the way up.

The backsplash will use these 2 colors (4" tile and not .75" as listed):
http://www.tileshop.com/product/prod...x?familyID=480
http://www.tileshop.com/product/prod...x?familyID=490

This border will run along the countertop with the above tile set as diamonds:
http://www.tileshop.com/product/prod...ecordID=397837

The tile guy will do this the last 2 weeks of April, so I'll post pics once it's ready. I can't wait to see how it all looks.

I'll have to take a photo but a couple of years ago I did slate in our kitchen and the tiles are brick shaped. Everyone who sees it always compliments it. Since doing it though we have been contemplating pulling up the hardwood in the kitchen and doing slate on the floor also as we hate having hardwood in the kitchen. Just a pricey project to take on when there really isn't anything wrong with the current floor.

For the countertops, I went with solid surface and those were installed 2 days ago.

The backsplash got laid today with grout being put in on Monday. I love it!

Looks good.

I did a full granite project a few years ago and am very glad I was talked into the whole backsplash in the same granite.

Cost more but made all the difference in the world. Same with the full rounded bullnose edging.

Broke a few glasses getting used to the hard surfaces but wouldn't go any other way now.

Looks great. What color grout are you going with? Also, another small detail to pay attention to is the cover plates for the outlets and switches. See if you can find something that matches the backsplash.

I think the grout color is called linen.

I'll be getting cover plates this week. I just haven't gotten that far yet.

Nice looking job! I'm late to the thread, but when we redid our counters & backsplash a few years ago we opted for tin:

http://www.americantinceilings.com/backsplash.html

Turned out quite nice; don't have any pictures on hand to post, but I think there are a few around here already as backdrops to my various cigar & beer pix postings

Garden tub before and after (lighting isn't the best in the after picture). If you look at the old picture, there was a bottom step that had been removed and now has flat front, but it's a bit wider than before.
