Default Beads attached to lid?

I think the humidifier that came with my new humidor could hold some beads. It already has a mesh screen built in, so I think all I'll have to do is remove the sponge and add beads.

My question is this: Is there any reason NOT to keep your humidification device attached to the inside of the lid? Would it be more advantagous to keep a tube inside with the cigars? I'd rather have the added space, but not if the cigars at the bottom are drying out.

I'm probably overthinking things, as per usual, but just curious what peoples opinions are on the matter .
