Default Got a puzzler for you all....

First a little background.
I have recently applied for a different job, again, in another dept of the company I work for. I have attempted to get back into this field of work for over a year, applying for any job postings that came up.
I did the job for the dept. I presently work in, but the job became redundant with an old process line shutting down.
The job doesn't matter, I can do the job without any problems and was doing it for 2 1/2 yrs.
I just got a call for an interview for the most recent posting....

The puzzle is that the dept. I'm applying to has a certain.... Oh hell... my cousin works in that dept.
Him and I don't speak and haven't since he decided to split up my brother's marriage by sleeping with the bitc.... err.... ex-sister-in-law.
The last time we were near each other I had to be restrained from swinging for him.
I think I can now, after 30 yrs, be able to be near him, but I just don't know.
If I get the job, I may have to work with him everyday....
I hope that we can leave 'family' matters at the plant gate, and I intend to draw clear and definite boundaries to that effect right off the hop.
I don't know if I can trust him to do the same.

The option is to pass on the posting, but I may damage my chances in the future by doing that.

for the run on, I'll climb down now and go back to my corner....

Sounds like a tough situation. I wouldn't risk it (But I'm not much of a risk taker and not known for my tact either).

I guess it depends on how much you want the job. It might be worthwhile trying to talk to your cousin before the inteview to gauge his reaction (or your reaction to him).

Were you American, not Canadian, there would always be the Texas option . . . shoot the bastid.

Other than that, I think you have the right attitude. Having a job should be more vital to you than holding onto a grudge three decades old.

Taking your whole story into account - it takes two to tango so if not him, well.

That said - take the job and treat him just like any other co-worker that you'd like to kick the every living $hit out of.

With all of the employment laws protecting the rights of the worker, if he were to cause you any trouble at all on the job I'm sure you won't have ANY trouble ending it in a civil matter. Take the damn job if you want it

^^^ Yeah.

30 years, huh, like to see him try that again.

As long as you don't need to trust or rely on him it should be fine. Makes the hair on my neck stand up thinking about it, though. What happened to the b!tch-in-law and your bro makes a difference, too. If all was well in the end then no sweat.

umm.... no.

Even longer story, but the reader's digest version... I don't speak to any of that side of the 'family' my own mom included.

I interview Mon. and if I get it, I'll be informing him exactly where the boundary is.

Haven't seen the b!tch for 30 yrs. My brother, the smart one, moved to the far side of the country to get away from the 'drama'. I just cut that side of the 'family' completely off. My own mom has only seen my youngest daughter once, she turns 20 in a month....

Your life, bro... but you did ask, so here goes:

First, I would try to reconcile with my mom. Life is too short and I am not a fan of living with regrets. Job or no job, I would try to open communication with her if nothing else.

Next, I would talk to the cousin and let him know I was interviewing for the job. I would tell him if I got it that my plan was to work professionally and that I was not planning on becoming best buddies - but I did hope for a civil work environment.

If he wants none of it, I might pass on the job. Stress is a killer, and I'm sure he could make life pretty miserable, even if "he isn't supposed to" by company policy.

Either way, I am hoping for whatever is best for you and your home.

Well that was a waste of time...
Really pisses me off when a job is posted and they don't give all the proper details....
The first words out of the interviewer's mouth "So how much experience do you have with TSSA?" (Technical Standards and Safety Authority)
Me... "none."
Why don't they post the requirements and stop wasting time??
