Asus makes some of the best netbooks out there. you can get a really good one for $400. Keyboards are almost full size with some models having standard locations for the keys.

I have a Dell Mini 10v and I love it. Nice long battery life. I think if I had to deal with Windows, IMHO there isn't enough power. I have Ubuntu on the netbook and it runs super fast. I have Windows 7 as a backup and it runs faster than XP. Overall, I am very satisfied with it! My only wish is that it could run HD video so I could hook it up to the HDTV for watching movies.

Overall, if it was lost or stolen I would buy another one to replace it.

That's interesting. Incredibly underpowered though and not even having a SSD kills it for me.

EDIT: But I really like the fact that is is always connected via 3G and Wi-Fi. I wonder if they will require some sort of cellular plan to enable the 3G aspect, like the iPad? It actually seems like a really cool smartbook. I wonder how much it is going to retail for?

We have an Acer aspire with the atom processor built in wifi and so on. I am using right now. It is great for sitting in the chair in the evening surfing the web. I also took it on vacation to back up the pictures every evening and sending email. Other uses have been maintaining a couple of excel files I use at a local shooting club. and playing MP3s in the garage. My wife uses it more than I do though I perfer the desk top with the 22" screen. I don't care for the small screen but it is fine for surfing and email. Heak I use my iPhone for most email these days. For the 250.00 we paid I couldn't be happier. It was an open box deal at Sams club. If it dies I will pitch it and buy another. I would also consider the cheep full size I think you can pick one up for under 400.00 that would be a good surfer. I like my iPhone but for the going price of the iPad It would be tough to justify double the price for a web surfer.

Erin went and ordered one for me: ASUS 1005HA - PU1X BU

A bit of a surprise, since I thought we were just researching them for now. Anyways, from the link that Aldrin provided, I can't tell if this one is Macable. I think I want to try it, but don't want to wipe it out with no way to restore it. Anyone know if it can be done with this model?
