This maybe a little overboard, but.... If you wet sand the lighter with some 1000+ grit sandpaper and put a couple more coats of paint on it, the finish will be very durable even with heavy use. Wet sanding doesnt remove very much of a previous layer of paint and it gives the next layer something to hold on to. Painting old cars people use up to 5+, to get that mirror finish that looks a mile deep and in between each coat they wet sand the previous layer of paint.
