1. Korn & Rob Zombie at the Arco Arena (loudest concert ever)
2. Metallica at Cal Expo Amphitheater Theater
3. Megadeath at Cal Expo Amphitheater Theater
4. Red Hot Chili Peppers, I don't remember where (it was that good)
5. Korn, Limp Bizkit, Primus, and more at the family values tour.

There are many more, but I am having trouble remembering them all.

this is tough... not sure i can narrow it down to 5. in no particular order:

- i was at the '79 UFO/Judas Priest concert in Chicago with Icehog. well, not with him, but you get what i mean. my first concert. awesome.

- Scorpions/Iron Maiden/Girls School. not sure of year, but it was (i think) Scorps Blackout tour. 2nd row, Chicago.

- Comiskey Park 'Monsters of Rock'? was that what it was called? around '79 or '80 - the Tubes/Southside Johnny/Fastway/Foghat/Rush. Cripes - that concert lasted all day...

- Springsteen, the River tour ('82?)/Springsteen, Born in the USA tour ('85), TIE - the BEGINNING of the Born in the USA tour, before the whole damn thing got outta hand. both in Chicago. no one rocked harder or longer than the Boss, back then.

- Smithereens, Top of the Pops tour, Chicago. 3rd row. Pat Dinizio stood on my chair and played guitar, Jim Babjak drank my beer. that bastard.

- Pete Townshend, Chicago, Arie Crown theater, '94? the Arie Crown sucks, we had crap seats, my wife absolutely loves Pete. bribed an usher to let us sit just on the right of the stage, literally. hard to describe where we were, but Pete looked at us funny a couple of times like 'wtf are you doing there?'. good news - we were about 20 feet from Pete, bad news - we were right next to the speakers. i was seriously worried about permanent hearing loss. Pete played ALMOST as long as Springsteen did...

- Los Lobos at the Fillmore in San Francisco, 2004. it was their 30th anniversary tour, my wife and flew out specifically to see them at that historic venue. it was awesome. they recorded a dvd of the show and you can see us on it. lol...

- just about anything i've seen at the Ryman auditoreum in Nashville - Elvis Costello (second row), Tom Waits (third row), Lyle Lovett (first row, dead center).

wow. ok, more than 5... great thread, btw!

Gasp! I would never admit I saw Elton John a couple of years ago and was blown away by his piano skills and how amazing his band sounded. Oops, did I say that out loud?

Me too, Than, nothing to be ashamed of.

Saw him in 1988 at the Poplar Creek outdoor theater in Hoffman Estates...man, I miss that place. Saw Santana, Aerosmith, REO, Pat Benetar, Hall and Oates, Genesis, The Outlaws, ZZTop, and a boatload of other concerts there in the 80s.

Also saw EJ at the Allstate Arena in 2004...took my Dad and stepmom.

/jealous

With the lack-luster rappers and R&B acts flooding the market, makes me wish I was more adultish back in those decades and able to get myself to see some of those great bands!

k..I'm not trying to start a flaming session of musical tastes, just saying I'd prefer to see groups of the 70s and 80s back when they were huge then to spend time and money to see T-Pain or Lil Wayne or T.I. etc...

Actually, if you are a fan of Philadelphia Soul, Hall and Oates had some decent tracks, Larry.

Man, I don't know if I could ever pick out a favorite, there have been so many phenomenal shows. But I can tell you for sure that ther hasn't been one lately to break into the mix for me. I'll give it a shot.

Jane's Addiction, 1988, at The Nick Rocks, a seedy little dive bar in Birmingham, Al.
Just as Nothing's Shocking was first hitting the scene Perry had waist length, bright red dreads, lime green gloves up to his elbows, and fishnets. Dave Navaro way before he was a "star." They blew that place up in front of maybe 100-150 people.

Smashing Pumpkins, ~1992 & 1993, at The Masquerade, a bar in Ybor City in Tampa, FL.
Back when Billy Corgan was wearing sundresses and combat boots and had long hair. Easily two of the best shows I've ever seen. Wide open aural assaults. Just bad ass shows.

REM, ~ 1997, at The Thunderdome in St Pete, FL.
Odd to me that a domed stadium would have housed one of my favorite shows, but me and a buddy got to the front row to witness it up close and it was just an amazing show. IMO, this is when REM was peaking into one of the best bands around.

Ministry, 1992, at Lollapalooza in Orlando, FL.
Along with Pearl Jam, Chili Peppers, Jesus and Mary Chain, Soundgarden, and others, Uncle Al and Ministry stole the show. To this day, because of that show, I go see Ministry whenever I have the chance. I don't know of another band out there that just brutally assaults you for a couple of hours the way Ministry does. Loud, proud, fast, and in your face.

Man I could go on and on...

Great thread. I keep remembering shows I didn't add like Pearl Jam in a small venue here in Orlando, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rolling Stones Steel Wheels tour in Shea, Neil Young and Crazy Horse, Springsteen at the Stone Pony, etc... Even Billy Idol on the Rebel Yell tour was fun.

I put KISS Alive 2 at the top for me because they were my heros and my Dad took me to the show and we had seats up close. I remember the flames shooting up as they came down on risers from up high and started the show with Love Gun. I was numb for days and remember it perfectly although it was 32 years ago.

I'm glad I grew up when I did as none of today's music would motivate me to take an all day road trip or camp out in a parking lot like I did in the 80's and early 90's.

Wow, I feel like I am starting to sound like my parents, but I feel sad for today's youth, as they are getting robbed musically.

I'm not to proud to admit I paid 100 bucks recently for seats by the stage to see Rod Stewart. It was for my wife, I swear...
