$7.5 mil per season for a guy who has played on average 55 games per season the last 5 years? After they just got out from under the Gomez contract?

I love Gaborik, he's put up good numbers in that horrid system in Minny, but that was a terrible financial move.

Money would have been better spent on a couple D-men.

I wish you good luck with that, Al, but I wouldn't bet the farm.

7.5 wow that averages out to 10.9 based on a normal player that plays 80 games.

Made of glass and goes nowhere near his own blue line.

Offensive dynamo for sure...............7.5 no way

210 goals last year, 6th from the bottom and we need D?

You can never have enough D in the playoffs, ask Anahiem, Chicago, Detroit, Pittsburgh...

We have to make it to the playoffs first. I think I remember reading that the forwards left (before signing Gaborik, without Antropov, Gomez) were at 130 or something goals. Islanders had the least in the league with 190ish.

Plus, the Rangers are quite deep with good D prospects. I wouldn't be surprised if one or two are moved at the trade deadline.

Edit: Yea he's glass, but whenever he played the Rangers he was money. Just have to keep Pronger away from him.

One last thing: 80% Gaborik @ 7.5 per is a helluva lot better than 100% Gomez @ 7.3 per. Now if only Sather could work his trade magic and move Redden...

I have mixed feelings with the Wild's loss of Gaborik. When healthy, he's one of the most entertaining players to watch and a great goal scorer. Unfortunately, as of late, he was rarely healthy. I wish he would have resigned with the Wild, but he didn't want to play here and the Wild weren't going to give him the amount of money that New York did. I think Gaborik will get eaten up by New York's media and fan base. He's a soft player who won't play injured and the Rangers overpaid for him. Good luck

Hopefully Havlat stays healthier than Gaborik did for the Wild. He is an amazing player when he is healthy or plays hurt, which unfortunately only seems to be during contract years.

It seems to be a pretty fair trade off for the Wild. I loved Gaborik WHEN he was healthy. If he can stay healthy, I can see some really great things for him. Unfortunately, he doesn't stay healthy, and he refuses to play when he's not 100%. (At least that's what he said last year).
