Default "Flight" Samplers

I've been spending way too much time on cbid lately.

Some of their sampler packs are referred to as "flight" samplers.

Is there any significance to the term? Any clue of the origins? How is a "flight" sampler different than any other sampler?

In many restaurants you can order a "wine flight" which is a sampling of different wines. I would assume they've borrowed the term from there.

Great question. I've wondered this myself.

You know how when a little kid asks you a question, and you don't know the answer, so you make one up? That's how I felt with this.

In my mind, a "flight" sampler was made up of enough cigars to last a trans-atlantic flight.

But then I see some flight samplers with 12 cigars, and I thought, "Man, that's a long-ass flight!"

Funny, I used to bartend, and had never heard of a wine flight.
