Default Emergency Splicing of Verizon Fios - ???

Well it finally happened - we cut a Verizon Fios cable (residential) on the job the other day.

And just to add to the excitement - the customer had to take an online test before going in to work in about two hours.

So my boss who was on the job at the time calls me and asks if I know how to splice it - nope I said. Well he ended up cutting the sheath back and laying the main fiber beside each other, taping it, and the customer had a signal.

So the question for any of you techs out there - are there any affordable "mechanical" kits that we can buy to use for emergency repairs until Verizon (or whom ever) gets on site.

The cable that was cut the other day was more or less a flat cable with a large center fiber and two smaller fibers on each side.

I have seen on various jobs where splices were made using a small enclosure, maybe 5" square or so in which the cables were just laid inside. No fusion - just mechanical. I always assumed they were just a temp mechanical repair.

So any ideas? We don't often cut lines, especially for the amount of excavations we do but I do carry phone and coaxial kits in addition to electrical stuff. Like to be able to do the same for optic.

Thanks,

Ron
