Then what's the big woof? The Grateful Dead not only did not care if you pirated their concerts, they would provide you the audio stations so that you could get a clean feed! Don't get me wrong . . . I have no problem with an artist getting paid for his work, but if Prince hasn't made his bankroll by now, why should I care? Just my , and not only is that worth every penny but it is also roughly equivalent to MY bankroll.

This is just my feeling, as a long time Prince fan, I think that he is more concerned with controlling the distribution than the money (if you read the whole article it mentions that he is worth an estimated 100mil but continues to donate sizable portions of that to various charities). After being so tied up in a record contract where he felt he had no real control of how his music was distributed I can understand his wanting to control that aspect of it.

However, when a guy like Bono, from U2, starts talking world peace, I believe its a mistake to not listen. He's invested decades into pushing for peace. He knows his information better than a lot of politicians I would suspect (i.e. Palin and her "foreign policy" experience w/ Russia....scary). Furthermore...just think a few decades ago when music was so politically driven. The 60's and 70's are saturated with policitally motivated music. Just because a person chooses an outlet such as entertainment, I don't believe that should discredit them from an opinion. If they take the time to research the subject, I believe that makes them an outstanding spokesperson because they have mass appeal.

What's so amusing?

We just basically said the exact same thing.

If the person is qualified to give an opinion, then great, if not, it's of no value.

Most of them aren't qualified though.

Oh, and as for that whole control of distribution and retention of rights issue . . . well, I gave up on the justification of that in the music business 'way back when Michael Jackson went behind Paul McCartney's back and bought The Beatles' songs.

After that, you think I'm gonna care if somebody downloads "Little Red Corvette" for free? Not hardly.

Unfortunately, I'm old enough to know who prince is. I would kinda suspect people who weren't around for most of the 80's would know anyway just from the number of classics the guy has. Hell, Dave Chappelle did a skit about Prince a few years ago, that has to be worth something to the kids.

True story, I couldn't name one song prince has done. I know of prince, but yeah, had to google to see what songs were actually his.

As a closet Prince fan, I had to laugh when I read this story.

Ok, you all know I'm not a closet fan. I own everything the man's ever done. That's over 35 albums worth of material. And I'm under 30 LOL.

Seriously though, his new album that came out 3 days ago in the UK... I was disappointed. I wished to share my disappointment but then I found out ther internet was dead. Thx Prince
