Some guy who joined here a short time back said he was from Mid-Jersey, and I objected that there was no such thing. I think he went and hid, which was not my intent.

That there is funny stuff.
Amazing how it has always been Northern Jersey or South Jersey.
I think the reason there is no middle is the middle part wants no part of that and prefers the term "Northern Jersey.

I don't see that as "Rollins-esque". I see that as a prediction. Wasn't even said in a "smartass" way. If I said "Phillies sweep, but maybe the Yanks will sneak out one win" that would be me being a d***. And please entertain me what did Rollins say that has stuck in your craw so bad?

And the bolded part.....???? To use another "esque", that is New York-esque. You're kidding, right?

Hence a blind Phillies fan if you can't recognize they are not playing against a triple A team. They are playing the best team in baseball in 2009! Just hope they don't turn out like the Patriots.
No one said anything about the Yankees being a AAA team. You inferred that I was dissing the Yankees because I predicted the Phillies in 5. I saw no d***ness (like, that's a word ) when I predicted it. You all are just offended that someone would make such a bold prediction against your beloved Yankees. A backhanded apology can be made if that would make all of you feel better.
The Yankees had the best regular season record. The World Series will determine the the best team in baseball. Your opinion of what defines the best team apparently differs from mine.

You are from "South Jersey".
The land of nowhere. You are not accepted by northern jersey, where the majority of the population resides. On top of that, no local team anywhere in sight to call your own so understandably you look for comfort across the river, in Philadelphia, the land of brotherly love.
Makes sense.

Kidding aside, unless you are from NJ, folks have no clue of the two different worlds that exist between northern Jersey and south Jersey. At least when I left 13 years ago, it was evident.

.....and as cheesesteaks go, GENO'S!!!
All kidding aside, I am closer to the stadium complex in S. Philly than a lot of people who live in Philly! 18 minutes from my driveway to the entrance to the stadium parking lot...and I live in the boonies! Being that close I have no problem calling Philly my home city. (***kidding no longer aside***) And who in the world would want to be associated with the armpit of America, North Jersey where corruption and lawlessness reigns supreme?

I went to Rutgers (NB) and when I told people there I was in North Jersey they about flipped and said it was actually South Jersey. We agreed to disagree but ultimately I ended up calling it Central Jersey. ...I won't hide though.

You need two football teams to show up to have a game.
Who is this Washington team? Are they in the NFL?

Better be nice to the lawlessness in North Jersey.

Lost of wiseguys pass through South Jersey to bury bodies out in the pine barrens.

You probably wouldn't believe me, but I actually worked for a well known mobster in college at his fish market in Rutherford and learned to keep my head down and mouth shut and let the money flow into my pockets.

I actually grew up in Long Branch, on the shore, and we always considered it Central Jersey and called everyone from other parts of the state, "bennies".

The Phillies have the 7th Highest Payroll in Baseball. Don't kid your self. Its not like the Phillies have totally built this team from the ground up.

Pete,
No such thing as Central Jersey.
If you grew up in Long Branch, where I come from (Ironbound section of Newark - grammar school, High School and even went to college near by at Rutgers in Newark), you grew up "down the shore".

I always liked the joke Carlin used back in the 80's.

Carlos,

What a stroll down memory lane.
My Dad grew up in Newark and went to Weequahic High School and Rutgers law School in Newark.

Him and my grandfather had a law firm on Academy Street for more than 50 years.

As a kid, my Mom would put me on the train from the shore and my Dad picked me up in Newark for dinner at Don Pepe's before heading over to Yankee Stadium to sit in our seats along the 3rd base line where my jaw dropped as Greg Nettles leaped through the air to catch line drives and Bucky Dent ripped out Red Sox fan's hearts with shots over the left field wall.

I broke my arm jumping my dirtbike and the cast was signed by Thurman Munson at batting practice when I was 9.

Yankees in 6, Pete sobbing like a little girl as the Yankees collect #27, with no other ball club even in their rear view mirror for all of time.

It's gotta suck not liking the Yankees, but if you grow up in my family, you'll never know the feeling.

My 4 year old daughter needs to be reminded its, "Jeter", not "Cheater", but already knows the good guys wear black hats and pinstripes.

I went to Mt. Carmel elementary school right next to Independence Park in the Ironbound.
Graduated from East Side High right down the street.
Went to NJIT for a year in downtown Newark, then went across the street to Rutgers where I graduated from.
Spent most of my life in or around Newark.

Got to see Munson and bs with him overlooking the bullpen in Shea, when the Yankees played there. Signed a paper for me but as a kid will do, lost it.

I have my 2 year old grandson who yells "Go Yankees" whenever he sees a baseball team playing. Picked up a Jeter jersey for him when I went to Yankee stadium this past May.

Man it is fun to be a Yankees fan.

I will try to post later my favorite piece of Yankees history. My son and I met Mickey Mantle just a few months before he died. Got a ball signed and was nice enough to put "No. 7" beneath his name.
I will always cherish that ball. Don't care what it can be worth. Will never part willingly in my lifetime.
