Default Wife just bought me my first Cob

She was working down by Georgetown tobacco today and stopped in and spoke with the Guy working and told him I smoked cigars and was interested in trying out pipes. So of course he recommended a Padron 1964 for me to smoke with a cup of coffee. She also got me a Cob, their house blend 1261 (A simple, square cut presentation of the finest Burley tobaccos that can be smoked all day without any bite. This pleasant tasting, mild and gentle mixture is a compliment to all briars.) and some pipe tools. No picture as of yet to see what I got hopefully I can post something up later tonight

Cool Brendon, I jumped into the pipe slope a while back but suffered from tongue bite all the time and that kinda turned me off but when it gets cold out again I may have to give it another go.

I'm well down the slope and cheating on my cigars. Don't let the mighty cob fool you, they make great pipes!

Excellent first pipe. I have old grungy cobs that have seen a lot of time.

Just tried it out, maybe I didn't pack it right or what but it didn't have a lot of flavor. I am going to give it another shot in a week or so just not sure.

It takes some time to get it down. There are plenty of videos and info on the web on the whole process. What has worked for me was packing light and drying the tobacco out for a while. Once you get it down it is totally worth it!

Piping definately takes a little practice to get right, but don't give up yet. I have found that once you somewhat figure out packing (I still don't always get it perfect lol, in fact perfect is rare indeed) and learn to sip instead of puffing away like mad like many of us do, you will find that there is far more flavor in pipe tobacco than you could imagine. Also, would not recommend piping if you have recently smoked a cigar...yer palate is probably hosed to the generally more subtle flavors of pipe tobacco. Take your time, pour a single malt or your libation of choice, grab a good book, and relax on the back porch for awhile with a pipe and after a few tries it'll all turn out good.

Yeah I had troubles when I first started, but now I really enjoy piping. To me, much wider range of flavors than cigar tobacco, and certainly cheaper lol. Love both, but piping is about so much more than just the smoke, its very relaxing and as much about state of mind as it is the smoke.
