Question Re: St Louis Cardinals Fans Sound Off!

Great game. Well pitched on both sides. Rookie comes through again. Seemed like the first real test for Matheny. I think he passed.

Matt Carpenter! I wonder if MM will take Berkman up on his offer now, lol. There were a few close calls that went in our direction. The out at 3rd, depending on which direction it was shown from, 2 out of 3 looked like he was safe. But it was a pretty good game, maybe one day Holliday will start hitting runs instead of line drive bombs to the outfield.

Cards win! Probably should not have. A few bad calls on our side and man, the Pirates are a really, really sloppy team. Descalso knocked a HR. And I think it's time to stop making excuses for Matt Holliday, he is not right and continues to argue balls that are clearly in the strike zone.

Think Holliday's problem is physical or mental?

Mental 100%. He choked the last 2 years in the Playoffs and we have seen him hit the crap out of the ball when there is no pressure. I think he is going through a full fledged slump.

Wow, the Cards really should have won this game. 2 blown plays by the umpires, I mean 2 really obvious outs and the Cubs were called safe on them. Good for MM for standing up to the BS.

Ok, I'm done pouting. It was a great game, Garcia was in the form that we expect from him and it sucks that he got the loss. I don't want to jinx anything but Holliday seems to be out of his slump but I have to say I don't know if it's his attitude or bad luck but calls seem to go against him while he is batting. Mott just could not hang with the Cubs batters, I think the walk he gave up set the tone for the rest at bats, he could not find the strikezone after than. I had a post preloaded as I was watching the game thinking we would get the win, but "Well Crap" pretty much summed up the game

Just to clarify. The "Run" at home http://stlouis.cardinals.mlb.com/vid...82569&c_id=stl

And the "Safe" play at 2nd. This is not even arguable. http://stlouis.cardinals.mlb.com/vid...82569&c_id=stl

Anyways. Waino is getting better. His curve ball had the classic movement we are used to seeing. Holliday is still struggling even with the 2 run homer he belted. And the Cards left way to many on base. The only positive thing I can say is it's good to be a Cubs fan right now.

13-1 that should bring the AVG's up. Tyler Green needs to take a permanent trip back down to the minors, he has had his time and is not contributing offensively or defensively to the game. But after that crappy series with the Cubs it was a good night of baseball!

Totally agree about Tyler ... guess Tony was right.

Glad that Jay is back in the line-up. He kicked off the big inning and the team just seems to play better with him in there.

And, what's the deal with Westbrook? He doesn't even seem like the same pitcher that made us cringe every start last year. The wife says he reminds her of Danny Cox ... quite a compliment in my book.

Got the biggest kick out of watching Yadi play 2nd.

Damn, was Yaddi at 2nd? How did I miss that, I saw him at 1st. After the 8th I was barely watching the game, something about being up 11 runs

Guess that 20lbs for Jake is a much bigger deal than he would like to let on. Again tonight he was painting the corners

The box score says 1st. Saw him scoop up a grounder and throw the runner out at 1st ... must have been the pitcher covering? The camera showed him with this big grin on his face after the play ... looked like he was having a great time. Guess he must have been on 1st after they moved Carpenter to 3rd ... had the same attention problem you did at that point ... duh ... me bad.

Oh forgot ... Everybody is talking about the 20 lbs. The TV guys said that he has stopped tipping pitches like he did last year.

But, I wonder?

Saw the stats on the starting rotation when I was poking around for the box score: ERAs ... 0.99, 1.30, 1.33, 2.49 and 7.32 (guess who - but hopefully improving). The AP story on the game says that the startrers' 12 wins are the most in MLB.

Don't think McGwire gets enough credit for what we are seeing at the plate. I wonder if, maybe, Lilliquist deserves some of the credit for what we are seeing on the mound?

Yes, I believe tipping pitches may have a little more to do with it. Loshe had a "rough" outing today, but the bats backed him up. If they could only do the same for Waino the ERA would not be so high, kind of reminds me of a starter last year.
