A rep from Jose Cuervo came to last month's cigar dinner. He brought some Don Julio, and Jose Cuervo tequila.

I tried the Don Julio 1942 and it was unbelievable good. It tasted more like a single malt scotch then tequila.

I also tried the Jose Cuevro Reserva de la Familia and I must say it was one of the best tequila I have ever had.

One of my favorites is a lower-end 100% agave by Sauza, 100 Anos.
Costs about $25/ 750ml in the states (at least around my area), but I tend to buy it in Mexico for about $12. Not to be confused with the Reposado, which is inferior.

However, the BIG question for all you tequila fans is:
With what cigar do you pair it?
I find most cigars clash with the sweet-salty-spiciness of a good tequila, & I've only found a few cigars that really complement the flavor, mostly Honduran for some inexplicable reason. San Luis Rey & Punch Gran Puro being the best pairings. Perdomo Reserve Cameroon (now discontinued) & TTT Trinidad beng the best runner-ups.

What cigar do YOU prefer with a night of tequila?

For me, it's all about Mezcal once I tried a high end one. I have plenty of top end Tequila that I could care less about after one sip of that Mezcal. It's like Tequila on steroids; at least flavorwise. The smoothness and quality was equal to any top brand you can name.

Well, since I'm having a nice nip of Don Julio, figured I'd bump this thread back up to the land of the living .

For me, DJ Anjeo or Cabo Rep is my "normal drink", but every once in a while, it's nice to kick it up with a glass of Real or Uno.

I also am very partial to Don Julio, both the Silver and the Anejo. I am also very much into Casa Noble Crystal and the Anejo as well! In fact I just finished a sniffer of the CN Crystal earlier this evening.

I've tried many Tequila's in my days, but only ONE has left me with NO hangover the next morning. That quickly became my favorite Tequila: Cabo Wabo in the blue bottle.

I have a set of the little Riedel glasses, but usually just use a snifter or short rocks glass.

Yep, Cabo Rep (formerly blue bottle, now just a blue label) is a great "daily" or "affordable" drink.....love that stuff.

Was at my local BevMo yesterday, and the Cabo they had there was still in blue bottles. They had about 5 of them behind the glass

I am pretty much only buying Mezcal from now on. Tequila tastes like water compared... The quality is now available in Mezcal, so why bother with Tequila?

They are two completely different animals!

Have you tried Sotol yet? It is also a very good Agave based drink!

Yes, they are all agave products, but Tequila is made only from agave grown in Tequila County, Mexico. Mezcal and Sotol are ways made from wild agave grown throughout the rest of Mexico. I do not recall exactly but there are some distinct differences in the process in which each is made as well. That fact, along with the different varieties of agave used in making Mezcal & Sotol make them different animals. If is often said that Tequila can be called a Mezcal or Sotol, however, Sotol and Mezcal cannot be called a Tequila. The reason for that is that both Mezcal and Sotol are not made from the agave grown in Tequila County, Mexico.

I heard last night, at a tequila dinner, that the root of the agave plant is roasted when making mezcal and steamed when making tequila.
I did impress the hostess of the event when she asked what the difference was between tequila and mezcal. Told her it's where the agave is grown. Thanks for the lesson

They have one? I bet it is good. I heard they are the company that initially distributed Cabo Wabo which I think is a good brand (at the Costco prices when they had it). I wonder if it's made by the same people as Cabo?

Bought myself a birthday present or two.

Costco has the three pack of 375ml bottles of the Milagro Select Barrel - I think it was $80 or so, which seemed like a good price. I am thinking about grabbing another set. Tried the anejo for the first time the other night and I was impressed.

I had Tezon a couple of years back in Vegas, I think it is no longer being imported so I tracked down a bottle of the reposado and anejo on the internet.

I have only tried the Blanco so far and it was very good. Very smooth.

Unfortunately, the place I bought these from online did not have the Blanco. I think the place was trying to get rid of them as they were pretty much 1/2 off. The few places online that have the blanco left are full price.

I am not a huge fan of straight liquor in general, so I may not be the best person to ask. I prefer my tequila in margaritas.
