I would join in for a pipe under $130 (a little lower if possible).
Being from Europe, I would need to know about payment options, but as my wife's parents live in the US I can easily find a way. The pipe would be sent to them and they would then make it come to me. During August I'll be in the US, also. Zeman and Senatorov seem great. I can go for any type of pipe, except for a full-bent. A poker would be nice. |

Poker sounds like a good shape, but I like just about everything. Like a 1/4 bent poker though, that'd be great.
Hopefully we can pull this off somewhere, cause that'd be awesome. |

I might be interested, depending on the finances when the time comes, a little less or near to $130 sounds decent.
Jan Zeman does some nice work and is willing to come in with a solid pipe near the price range a club is looking for. Here's a link. http://www.zemanpipes.com/index.php

I'm going to step out and and say max $130 for a custom pipe is what I would be willing to spend.
So I will start putting some money away, from the odd jobs I've doing. I really want to be a part of 1st year Asylum Club Pipe. STS ![]() |

I would throw Jurt Huhn into the mix of potential makers. He has a couple lines of pipes that are in or around our price range. It would be hard for most custom carvers to fulfill our requests at our price but if Kurt is willing I think it would be an easy transaction for us to make. His country man line of pipes run from 1000125 dollars. It would also be nice find an American carver for ease and accessibility. Here is his website.

I have not smoked pipes before, but I think a custom made CA pipe, 1st year of CA, first edition, etc. added special aspects would make me get one. Yes, if less then $130, I think I would have to do it.

I have his poker called the Fiery Cross, seen here. Wonderful smoker. Although, I'm not partial to smokers for this club pipe thing.
At some point one of us should start to contact these pipemakers to see if they can even fit this into their schedule. I'm excited, though. Would be nice to have a club pipe. WWhermit ![]() |

I'm down for a club pipe. Preferably under a hundred, but can go over.
I like the idea of a quarter bent poker. Partially rusticated with a smooth rim. |

I would like to get in on a club pipe, just as long as the price is less than $130. I would prefer to have a rusticated pipe with some kind of bend.

I am not interested in any pipe group buys anymore, but I do have a few pieces of advice for you guys.
First, make sure that the carver that you choose has done group pipes before. Dealing with someone that has never done it before or has little experience dealing with a group's expectations is very frustrating. Especially if the pipes don't meet the group's expectations in quality or appearance once completed. Next, if you are going to pick a shape before an artisan, make sure that the artisan is comfortable with the shape that you picked and has made it before. It is probably safer to choose the maker and then pick a shape that they make pretty often with possibly some tweaks. It may not be as special or unique, but everyone ends up happy with the quality, appearance and construction. Lastly, picking a new or up and coming pipe maker can seem attractive due to price or other considerations, but going with one of the more established pipe makers is always a better choice. Even if they may be a bit more expensive, it is worth it to know you are going to get a quality product and if you aren't happy they will make it right. A couple good ones that I can think of off the top of my head would be Tinsky and Boswell. Good luck to you guys. |
