"The Fragrance of Grass" by Guy de Valdene, title taken from a Jim Harrison quote, "The smell between the four pads of a dog, the fragrance of grass."

Re: What are you reading?
A combined edition of "The Prince" and "Discourses on Livy" by Niccolo Machiavelli.
My past history lessons (high school etc.) had treated Machiavelli as an advocate of amorality, if not the devil incarnate. Per Eric Hoffer's commentaries in "The Ordeal of Change" and other references, I now look at "The Prince" (his more commonly recognized work) as a sort of "demo reel" by a veteran of Renaissance politics, who was himself above reproach, had been put to pasture by a change of regime, and wanted more than anything to get back into the game.

Roots of Obama's Rage by Dinesh D'Souza. Had a lot of political psychology in college and a friend asked me to read it. Gave him a fascinating book on the Federal Reserve. Guess we are going to have lunch sometime and compare notes.
I'm not big on conspiracy theories ... try to keep an open mind and ignore the BS. Just started it and, so far, the guy is laying out a pretty straightforward case. |
