Red pitcher Pedro Borbon died Monday, he was one of the standouts of the Big Red Machine's pitching staff in the 70's.

Borbon was immortalized (and flattered) in the movie "Airplane" as well.

Tigers skipped a place in their rotation this week with the day off, so Verlander will pitch Thursday at Wrigley versus the Cubs, and I will be there.

Matt Cain just finished off a perfect game for the Giants Vs. Houston.

Cain tied Sandy Koufax for most strikeouts in a perfect game (14).

Heading to Wrigley tomorrow, hoping for something similar from Justin Verlander.

How cool was that! I am not a San Fransisco fan, but that was a lot of fun to watch. I expected a lot more emotion from his wife.

MLB Network did a great job with the coverage, too.

Glad you got to see a win, Tom!
If I go see the Yanks Vs the Toledo Mud Hens, chances are, the Yanks will lose.
Such is my luck.
I didn't realize this was Verlander's first win in almost a month.
I knew Detroit was struggling a bit, but figured they were at least winning his starts.

Thanks Dom, it was crazy as it seemed like there were more Tiger fans at Wrigley than Cubs fans. Delmon Young hit a sky high foul ball that was caught by a guy about 4 feet from me.

Verlander hasn't been too bad, but the Tigers bats have been sleeping in his last few starts. Great to see a win, suprising that it was Jackson's power that one it, rather than Cabrera or Prince.

And c'mon, I bet the Yankees would beat the Mudhens 3 out of 5.

That's why the World Series is best of 7!

White Sox acquire Kevin Youkilis. Not sure how I feel about this, but I guess he's better than what we have right now.

I think he's gonna come with a chip on his shoulder to prove some people wrong. Hope it works out for him. With Lillibridge the Sox get yet another outfielder...what's that makes, 13 this year? He came up as a SS/2B.

Lillibridge turned into a utility player, a good one too.

I thought so too, and was wondering how WS fans would feel about this trade. I guess a lot will hinge on how Youk performs.

I feel good about it right now. We needed a third baseman, and Youk is proven. He's coming in with something to prove and hopefully he can add a spark to the club too. Brent was a very good utility player, Stewart was not all that great for us. I'll miss Brent, but I think Youk will help us get to post season and hopefully make a deep run. I don't think Kenny is done adding pieces either..

Non Reds fans chip in: Was the Chapman roll/flips out of line or simply a quick celebration to mentally prove that he's "back".

I'm glad to see Melky Cabrera making the squad...but Sandoval beating out Wright for the start at third base??? R.A. Dickey better be the starter.

And with Kemp hurt, I'd like to see McCutchen get the start.

Bryce Harper is impressing me more and more...

ATLANTA -- Chipper Jones has enjoyed seeing the enthusiasm Bryce Harper has brought to baseball stadiums on a daily basis since making his much-anticipated debut. Now he has even more reason to respect the young Nationals outfielder.

When placed on the same Final Vote Ballot as Jones on Sunday, Harper did not campaign to gain his first All-Star selection. Instead, he showed his respect for the game by saying that he felt the Braves' 40-year-old third baseman deserved to go.

"I texted him last night and said, 'That's a very classy thing for a 19-year-old kid to say,'" Jones said. "I think he's going to be in his fair share of All-Star Games throughout the years. He's an unbelievable talent. I just let him know I appreciated what he said. It was classy."

"[Jones] should have already been in the All-Star Game no matter what," Harper said on Sunday. "He's an All-Star, and he's been an All-Star for 20 years. I think Chip should have been there and, like I said, if I had a vote, Chip's going."
