Cedar has aroma thru it's natural oils. It is common for cedar that has been exposed for a long time to lose aroma. Sometimes it can be revived, othertimes, not. Unless you take steps to revive, you shouldn't have a problem with aroma. However, same action that closes pores in wood that limits odor may also work against you in the desire for moisture retention/stability.
