You don't have to go out and buy anything, or even the same two cigars with different wrappers. If you want to know what a difference a wrapper makes, or even what different wrappers taste like (Cameroon vs Nicaraguan Corojo vs Conn Broadleaf etc) take your favorite cigar, a few of them. Take wrappers off other cigars and put them on this cigar that you know backwards and forwards. You will see that it makes a world of difference. Try a Tat Red wrapper on a VSG cigar, pretty tasty! The Cameroon wrapper on a AF Anejo not so good.
I don't know why but the top wrappers provides most of the taste, it doesn't really make sense to me but its true. Take a wrapper off a cigar, say a wrapper of a above mentioned cigar Pepin JJ. Start smoking a cheaper cigar like a H Upmann Maduro. About halfway though the smoke put the JJ wrapper straight over the maduro wrapper. You won't believe the difference and the fact that the maduro flavor disappears but its still on the cigar. I know all this sounds nuts but it can be fun and you are learning about cigars. I have done a many in the past including making a culebra out of 3 Oliva V lanceros. Three Oliva V Lanceros ![]() The 3 wrappers that came off ![]() Putting new wrappers back on, one is a maduro, one double habano, one a habano and conn barber poll ![]() The three cigars wrapped back up ![]() And the final culebra ![]() |
