Easiest thing would have been just to replace the jack on the motherboard... usually it can be done under $60... let me know the part number and I can source it directly from Dell (I have a platinum account).

will do - once I can find it... I guess I need to take 'er apart again.
As for the jack - my kid knocked it off and it landed on the jack while plugged in, so it put a hairline crack in the mobo. |
