Water after ice cream. Why?

My guess would be a combination of the sugar and the coating effect ice cream has on the pallet. I read or heard somewhere, cold food requires more sugar to taste sweet than warm or hot food.

not water, but chocolate. which is probably not a good idea to do after ice cream lol

I always thought the same thing. I'm a soda jerk but if i'm having ice cream I gotta have water, and a lot of it

As a diabetic, I have noticed that when sugar levels are high, I crave water. Ice cream is high in sugar.

I always feel like there is a film that needs to be washed down. I've tried soft drinks, but for some reason it always burns and feels like it bubbles up in my mouth.

It's particularly noticeable with wine. The sugar taste is much more obvious at warmer temps.
