I think this may help put the matter in some kind of perspective.
There is only one rule in regards to criteria for membership in the Baseball HOF, and that is Rule Five: Voting shall be based upon the player's record, playing ability, integrity, sportsmanship, character, and contributions to the team(s) on which the player played Link - HOF Rules
