Finally, an update on the cabinet project. It has taken longer and cost more than originally planned but I’m really happy with the quality of work. I moved about a month ago so I’ve been extra busy and haven’t been on CA much lately. Anyway, I’m finally getting settled in the new place and wanted to post some new pictures. Here are the shelves. Notice the concealed hardware on the slides, I thought that was a nice touch. Here is the walnut burl for the doors. It should be finished in about two weeks. |

It does look very nice. Once it's done, can you put up some numbers on what your final cost was for materials and aproximate time?

Thanks for all the kind words. I wish I could take some credit for the work but it’s actually my wife’s brother that is building the cabinet for me. The materials so far are around $5500-6000 Canadian including shipping, duties, etc. My best guess in US dollars for someone in the States would be around $4500. The labor is what really gets expensive for a custom project like this. Total hours so far including design are around 350-400. I can give you some better numbers once it’s complete. |
