  Being the country of my birth, I have an affinity for South African wines. Alto Shiraz is a spectacular example of an old world style Syrah (I.e. Not Aussie fruit bomb crud). It's been cellared a while, but has aged magnificently into a fine leathery, sweaty, still tannic red. paired up with JBs homemade ricotta gnocchi with a sage mushroom cognac sauce. Totally sublime......
