Dumping ash

I will dump ash depending on how the smoke is going, and the size pipe I am smoking, also if a pipe goes out and needs a new charring light I dump the ash to expose the fresh tobacco

Same here, I'll dump the ash as well. I don't know if they are serious or not but I have read that it's not "ok" to dump mid bowl for whatever reason.
