Drink pairing = Artificial flavor?

I'm with Jim in the fact that when I'm trying a new cigar I don't like to overpower it with anything else. Having said that, I tried a new cigar the other day and had a bourbon and coke with it...and while it didn't ruin the cigar or make me enjoy it less, I could tell that coffee would've gone WAY better with that cigar and I'll adjust my pairing next time I smoke one of those.
