That was "To Serve Man", Bob. Based on the 1950 short story by Damon Knight, it first aired March 1962. I remember, because I got very little sleep that night.

Heck, the aliens told me not to talk to Hawking. They said he's dangerous. Who am I going to believe?

Hawking is a math genius with a great imagination.
Science is all about theory, experiment and verification.
Neither of these things means his advice is any better than anyone else's, except on what he's good at.
