Default How long before the taxes would hit us?

I just read this article on the SCHIP Bill and how it more than likely will pass with the new president elect starting in Jan.

Article on SCHIP tax

My question is, assuming this Horse Poop passes, how long before we would see it applied in out daily purchaes? Wouldn't there be a mad rush on cigar purchases before it actually was applied to the retailers?

It blows me away that we are allowing ourselves to be taxed as was happening in Europe before we left over 200 years ago.

The thing about the SCHIP is it's been changed around so many times, no one really know how it will end up until the final bill actually passes. The cigar industry has fought hard and will continue to fight hard to get the SCHIP as low as possible. They have are achieved the lowering of the initial tax and removing certain things from the bill. My thoughts, sit back, enjoy a cigar and see how things work out. Even when it does pass, there will be a lot that will have to be done before it goes into effect.

By the title of the thread... I thought this topic was about Obama letting the Bush tax cuts expire. TripleF i agree with you that the USA is becoming Europe. Our founding fathers would vomit if they knew what this country has become.

(J/K- really)

Government needs more money. Just wish they would come out and say.. everyone needs to pay x% more vs the selective increases targeted at social reform or "sin".

Yes, with my former money paid in taxes... do you have it? If so, see pic above.

Slightly off the specific topic but everyone should be prepared to pay more taxes for virtually everything. Every government entity; local, state, federal and their offspring programs will be looking for cash. If you have any, you are the target.

Sin taxes are such a crock.

When has smoking or drinking become a sin? They certainly weren't went Jesus was alive... Certainly they can be abused, but what can't? I know.... just banter talk over here.

Only the sages may know how SCHIP will go through Congress.
