I am here looking for suggestions on a new .22 pistol. A number of years ago I owned a S&W model 22A handgun and I foolishly parted with it. I am in the market for a new one and I was wondering what everyone else had and if they had anything other than S&W that I should be looking at (I'm sure there is).
![]() Considering: S&W Browning Ruger Walther ?

My buddy just got one with a semi-bull barrel which is what prompted me to start looking for a new one of my own.

Revolver- Ruger New Model Super Single Six Convertible .22/.22Mag, unless you can find on old model three screw.
Autoloading- Ruger Mark III

Isn't a revolver a pistol.
![]() Would prefer a semi-auto.

Exactly, I have my Springfield Armory 1911A1 .45 for that.

I have considered it but I think I would like to have a stand a lone .22 that I can grab whenever the mood hits me and not have to go through a conversion. The conversion would be nice for the sake of muscle memory though.

Not to mention that .22s have been a popular close range assassination caliber since around WWII and through the cold war, if memory serves.

where is that "foot-in-mouth" smiley, I have wanted to use it at least 4 times today.
![]() For an auto, the Ruger Mark III is one of the finest .22s I have had the pleasure to put holes in cans and paper with. The Beretta Neos evidently gets fairly high praise, and is easy to clean, but it may not have the style or ergos that make a plinker a favorite. 2 other choices you may want to look at, the Walther P22, I dig the looks of them, and the Ruger 22/45, which evidently has very close ergos to mimic a 1911, an added bonus for muscle memory and .45 "practice" on the cheap. I'm a big fan of my Browning Buckmark Camper. Great pistol for the money. Accurate, nice trigger, very reliable with a large variety of ammunition.
I like my Sig Mosquito but it will only use one type of ammunition reliably. |

Thanks for all the suggestions, I am headed down to my local gun shop on Friday to handle a few and maybe bring one home.

Now the Buckmark, it's ticks like a sewing machine, and has great ergonomics. Love that little gun. Glad I had a chance to try both before I bought. If money were no object, the Sig is a fine choice. Wish I could say I had more experience with that one. How about an old Colt Woodsman? If you can find one.

It appears, from what I found in a few quick searches, the Sig Mosquito is evidently very picky about what you feed it. I think the tolerances may just be a bit too tight on that fine Swiss product. For a trouble free plinker I can fill with walmart ammo on the go, I want something that doesn't annoy me with FTF, FTL, FTE, bent rounds, stovepiping or any other irritating malfunction.
