Interesting Statistics thread

I'm an economics major so stats always were interesting to me as they provide a glimpse into the "facts" of most arguments. Feel free to post statistics here that you find interesting.

I'll start:

In 2009 47% of of people employed in the United states paid no federal income taxes.

Percentage of accountants who understand it: 9%

Percentage of IRS employees who understand it: 6%

Here's one that will boggle the mind.

If Tom (icehog3) doesn't make another post, at my current average posting rate (15/day), it will take me approximately 2 years and 3 months to catch him.
