Shanks can be repaired, stems and tenons can be replaced. Look at enough estate pipes you will see these type repairs.

Whether or not any pipe can be clenched is completely subjective.
I have a Ben Wade Canadian that’s 7 ¼ inch x 2.10 ounce, it’s completely comfortable between my teeth.
