I've wondered the same thing. The folks at WLL who sell a lot of Gaggia's seem to think the aluminum is a good thing because it heats faster, or so they say.... probably a sales pitch.

I plan on running my Baby Gaggia until it craps out, which it isn't showing signs of doing, then buy the Oscar I've been dreaming of.

Not sure why, but in my narrow mind, I think the Italian machines are the best.
