The hardest part of making your own pipe is getting the proportions right so that it doesn't look clunky. You really don't need to get too many tools if you are just using the pre-drilled kits. I made mine with a Dremel, a few rarely used files, and a bunch of various grit sandpaper. It's a fun thing to try, but I definitely have to give props to the guys that essentially turn it into an art form. That certainly takes talent.
