Default Don Pepin - Blue Label Lancero - 2007 Puff n Stuff

This Review was posted 5/13/2007

-----------------------------------------

A local B&M had Don Pepin blend 100 hand numbered boxes of these cigars. I thought this was a good chance to try something a little different from Don Pepin since his blends are so hot these days.

A few photos:

My experience with Blue Label Pepins are very limited. I remember smoking a robusto back in December at a B&M. I remember enjoying the cigar, although I smoked on an empty stomach. It left me feeling a little green.

Fast forward. I couldn't resist lighting one of these up, so I smoked one during a bar poker tournament. This time I lit up right after I finished a meatball sub.

Construction on this cigar is flawless. There is a tight little pigtail cap.

I don't have the specifics on the blend for these, but I was told that some more Ligero was added over the regular DP Blue blend.

Prepare yourself on this one. Pepin must have put have laced some black pepper seeds in the foot of this cigar. The first draw on this cigar was a black pepper spice explosion. This continued for about the first inch.

The cigar settles after this point into what I remember the Blue Label Pepin. This is a cigar that you really should take your time with. The finish on the cigar is where most of the complexity falls in after the spice explosion. It's a gradual build up, until you get to the half way point, the spice settles in and more of the DP blend recognized kicks in. The burn was flawless. Don't smoke it tooo slow. I had one flame-out when I stopped paying attention.

It takes some work when you're down to the last 2 inches in keeping it cool and keeping it from flaming out.

I did notice this cigar tasted very fresh. I'm imagining that these will improve into something different with some age.
