Default Re: Coffee 101: For The Love of the Bean

We started out with the whirley pop and had really good results with it for roasting our own beans.

Now we use the Behmore 1600 which is just an awesome roaster. So many variables you can play with to get just the right roast for the particular bean.

We buy our beans from Sweet Marias, as we have found that Tom really does do the homework required to select great varietals.

A conical burr is a must. We use the Breville model from Williams Sonoma and love it. While french press is reserved for special times with us, we needed a good reliable drip maker to help us wake up. We went with the Capresso MT500 which gives us the 205 brew temp consistently along with about a 6 minute brew time. The thermal carafe means no burned coffee flavors from a hotplate style, and our coffee is piping hot 3 hours later if for some reason we left any in it!

There really is no comparison once you've roasted your own beans. We will never go back!
