If you read farther down in my link, you will find that Child is quite pleased with the choice of Cruise for the role. Go figure, but if it's good enough for Lee, it's good enough for me. I will see the movie.
The Prey series was a little too graphic violence for me when I tried it years back. But, like you, I'm from the TC and enjoy knowing the settings. I may have to give it another try. That series would fill my winter of reading, and can be found cheap, second hand
